  • accolade- an award or privilege granted as a special honor or as an acknowledgment of merit
  • acerbity- sourness, with roughness or astringency of taste; harshness or   severity, as of temper or expression.
  • attrition- a reduction or decrease in numbers, size, or strength; wearing down, weakening of resistance
  • bromide- a platitude or trite saying (boring)
  • chauvinist- person who is aggressively and blindly patriotic, esp. one devoted to military glo-ry
  • chronic-  constant; habitual; inveterate
  • expound- present and explain (a theory or idea) systematically and in detail.
  • factionalism- A group of persons forming a cohesive, usually contentious minority within a larger group
  • immaculate- (especially of a person or their clothes) perfectly clean, neat, or tidy.
  • imprecation- a spoken curse
  • ineluctable- unable to be resisted or avoided; inescapable.
  • mercurial- (of a person) subject to sudden or unpredictable changes of mood or mind.
  • palliate- make (a disease or its symptoms) less severe or unpleasant without removing the cause
  • protocol- a system of rules that explain the correct conduct and procedures to be followed in formal situations
  • resplendent- attractive and impressive through being richly colorful or sumptuous.
  • stigmatize- describe or regard as worthy of disgrace or great disapproval.
  • sub rosa- denote secrecy or confidentiality
  • vainglory- inordinate pride in oneself or one's achievements; excessive vanity.
  • vestige- a trace of something that is disappearing or no longer exists
  • volition- the power to make your own choices or decisions
All of his accolades and trophies for sports were displayed in a big glass case. Because of all these awards, he had much vainglory and conceit. He made sure his trophies and awards were the biggest eye catcher in his room, making sure to keep it all neat and immaculate. | I have chronic migraines that I try to palliate by laying down with a cool, damp rag over my head.
